Puerto Rico Bioluminescent Bays
Posted on June 24th, 2009 No commentsA Bioluminescent Bay is a body of water that has all the proper combination of conditions for micro-organisms known as dinoflagellates to exist. Because of these mico-organisms, when the water is disturbed it glows a brilliant neon blue. The environment that must be present is such a chain of events it is amazing these areas exist at all.
I recently had the experience of seeing this phenomenon when I was in Puerto Rico. I took the adventure to Laguna Grande near the El Yunque rainforest, where I took the two hour bio bay kayaking tour. For a first time kayaker it was a long strenuous trip. Most areas were very narrow and hard to navigate, but looking back on the experience and realizing the greatness of being able to see this amazing phenomenon was all worth it.
I was not able to take any pictures, because the light may disturb and kill the organisms in the environment, but see the video below for a view of the kayaking area.

The Earth Is Angry
Posted on November 11th, 2008 4 comments
This morning I was linked to an article on The Huffington Post called The Angry Earth. China earthquakes, the US Florida fires, the US tornadoes, and the Burma Cyclone, four major disasters in a week. I had not even been aware of the US catastrophes until I saw this headline. Eleven days ago, on May 2, 2008 there was also an eruption of Chalten Volcano in South Eastern Chile, the first eruption of the Volcano since 7400 BC. Even coming back to New York yesterday morning I was faces with 50 MPH winds and power outages in southern New Jersey. The crazy weather is happening more frequently and with greater fury. I feel as if we are right in the center of the movie The Day After Tomorrow. So people that are still trying to argue Against the Inconvenient Truth of global warming or commenting on the new theory of global cooling, better recognize and wake up.
